Founded in 2008, Apical Reforestadora is a leading Panamanian company specializing in the development of premium teak plantations. The company is committed to high-quality timber production, underpinned by robust social and environmental standards.
Apical manages a substantial area of sustainably managed teak plantations. Its own land, located in the Panama and Darién regions, totals 4,400 hectares, with 3,300 hectares dedicated to high-quality teak timberland.
Additionally, Apical manages 1,700 hectares for Quercus Panama, LLC. This brings the total planted teak area under management to approximately 5,000 hectares, with the combined managed area, including Quercus Panama, LLC, totaling 6,684 hectares under a group certificate.
Demonstrating its dedication to responsible forest management, Apical has held Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certification since 2012.
Since its inception, Apical has maintained an unwavering focus on developing superior clonal material. It operates its own modern nursery to produce excellent quality, high-yielding cuttings, which are planted on carefully selected soils utilizing the highest yielding genetics available.
Apical’s participation in a broader teak network significantly drives advancements across its operations, including the clonal program, advanced silvicultural practices, harvesting operations, and teak trading. This expertise and focus have positioned Apical Reforestadora among Panama’s top FSC certified producers and exporters of teak logs.
Over the years, Apical has cultivated deep knowledge across the entire teak value chain. With its modern nursery, an extensive contractor base, and a growing client list, the company has attained superior insight and control over its value-adding operations.
As part of the Nuveen Natural Capital portfolio, Apical benefits from global expertise in sustainable, land-based investments. Nuveen is a UK-based investment firm and a subsidiary of TIAA, a leading financial services organization known for its commitment to long-term impact and responsible asset management.
